Academic Metrics

Grade Point Averages (GPAs) and Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) scores comprise the academic metrics considered for admission. For information regarding when and how they are applied in the admissions process, see Interviews and Admissions Committee Deliberations.

The typical entering class at our medical school has an average BCPM GPA of 3.7, overall GPA of 3.8, and an average MCAT of 506.

GPAs

The scholastic record in courses preparatory for the medical school curriculum is important. This is summarized as the applicant's cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA). While grades in all academic courses will be reviewed by the  Admissions Committee, focus will be given to courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Math (BCPM) that contribute to the BCPM GPA. Due to variations in grading schemes between schools, only GPAs calculated in the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) application will be considered.

It is recommended that students receive a grade in all courses that satisfy criteria to qualify for admission (see Course Requirements), avoiding courses with pass-fail grades. Academic averages are calculated on a 4.0 basis. If a course is repeated, all grades are used in calculating the grade point average.

The minimum BCPM GPA required for consideration for File Review and for an invitation for interview is a 3.3. The Admissions Committee considers both undergraduate as well as graduate coursework and GPAs.

MCAT scores

An equally important metric is the scores reported for the applicant's performance on the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). Applicants must take the MCAT and release score reports to our medical school.

MCAT scores must be within 3 years of the application cycle. For example, an applicant applying during the summer of 2024 (to enter medical school in the fall of 2025) must submit scores from an MCAT taken after January 1, 2021.

The minimum MCAT score required for consideration for File Review and for an invitation to interview is 496, provided that all section scores are at least 121. For applicants with multiple MCAT scores, the highest MCAT score will be used for consideration; however, the Admissions Committee will review and consider all MCAT scores when rendering their decisions.
